About this site
Suimenka is a drawdown checker for seeing how far U.S.-listed ETFs, individual stocks and Japanese ADRs have sunk from their recent highs.
Why it was built
I started building Suimenka after realizing there are surprisingly few sites where you can casually look up drawdowns.
I'm aiming for a site that covers the small details people actually want, but it is still very much a work in progress. Feedback and feature requests are always welcome.
While I was building it, one of my holdings began falling day after day almost unbelievably, so I have already started using the site myself!
Very mixed feelings. \(^o^)/
How to read the metrics
- Drawdown (current depth)
- The decline at each point relative to the highest index value reached up to that point. A high is 0%; values below the high are negative. Current depth is the drawdown on the latest date.
- today's index ÷ highest index so far − 1
- Maximum drawdown
- The deepest drawdown within the selected period. A past trough can be deeper than the current decline.
- Largest declines in the period
- Maximum depth is the largest peak-to-trough drawdown in the selected period. Worst 1-day decline compares consecutive trading-day closes. Worst 1-week and 1-month declines compare the first and last trading-day closes of completed calendar weeks (Monday through Friday) and calendar months.
- Resurfacing
- Progress from the lowest point after the latest high (0%) back toward that high (100%).
- (current − latest low) ÷ (latest high − latest low)
- Days underwater
- Calendar days from the latest high through the latest data date. It resets to zero when a new high is reached.
- Days deeper than now
- The number of trading-day observations in the selected period whose drawdown was strictly deeper than the current depth. It compares declines from a high, not absolute share prices. It is shown alongside all observations, so a new period low reads zero.
- Past underwater episodes
- Each interval from falling below a high until returning to that high is treated as one episode. The table shows its period, deepest point and total calendar days underwater.
- Water-level chart
- Published data is stored with the all-time high normalized to 100. In the chart, the high within the selected period is rescaled to 100. This changes only the scale, not the drawdown percentages.
The data shown
- Coverage centers on Nasdaq-100 constituents, plus major ETFs, Japanese ADRs, selected non-Nasdaq names, and reviewed user requests.
- Rankings are among the symbols covered by the site, not the entire market.
- Indices themselves, such as the S&P 500 or the Nikkei, are in principle represented by tracking ETFs.
- Marketstack U.S. market EOD data is retrieved by a server-side batch and is normally updated once a day after the U.S. market closes.
- Closing prices, adjusted closing prices, split factors, and dividends are checked internally to remove artificial discontinuities caused by corporate actions.
- Prices are shown as an index (all-time high = 100), not as absolute prices. Drawdown (the decline from a high) is unaffected by scaling the price, so indexing does not change the figures.
- Only derived data such as normalized indices, drawdown percentages, and days underwater is published. Raw prices, OHLCV data, and API keys are not exposed.
Updates may be delayed due to API conditions or market holidays.
